People can view a corner as dead space and represent the word “corner” as a negative. However, corners are my favorite spaces, and I feel comfortable there in my private space. The two walls behind me serve as my protection, and I can see everything that is happening around me when I sit in a corner. Touching is vital for me to feel intimate between my body and space, and I can never actually touch every part of the corner. I am interested in the unoccupied space between my body and the corner. To create this project, I pressed my body into one corner of the walls in my studio and used black glass to cast the negative space between the corner and my body. I cast my knees, elbows, palms, heels, toes, backside, and fingers in the corner. What you can see as cast glass represents what I could not reach as space between my body and the corner. Each cast glass is accompanied by a description and an image. The words not only document the relationship between my particular body parts and the corner, but also describe my feelings during each experience in casting. The images show the actual positions in pushing my body against the corner.
