People call the space in a corner “dead space.” However, the space in a corner is vital for me to make an intimate connection in my private spaces. The space in a corner is my favorite space in a room. I can see all of the remaining room when I am in the corner. Two walls are behind me to protect my back, my body fits in the size of space, and I feel intimate, safe, and comfortable. Also, I have been obsessed with fitting in corners since I was a child. This artwork is an exploration of private space through casting corners with black glass. I was able to cast glass in 52 of the corners in my home in Toyama, Japan. (There are actually 20 more corners, but I could not reach them all.) These glass casts have an engraved description of each corner on the back. Viewers can touch and feel the corners and words through these glass casts. Have you ever felt the corners in your home?
